The government today said the proposed National Fibre Policy, which is aimed at removing disparity in taxation and pricing of various fibres in the country, is yet to be approved by the Cabinet.

"The policy is yet to be approved by the Cabinet," Minister of State for Textiles Panabaaka Lakshmi said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha here.

The government has formulated the draft National Fibre Policy designed with a decadal perspective of 2010-20, to place India firmly on the world fibre map by strengthening the existing framework, providing institutional and technological support for rapid fire growth in the country, she added.

Replying to another query in Rajya Sabha, Lakshmi said that to promote the sericulture in the country, the government through Central Silk Board is implementing a central sponsored scheme -- Catalytic Development Programme -- in collaboration with state sericulture departments in all states.

Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided to the stakeholders of silk industry in the country through the respective state governments.
