The Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik has requested the 13th Finance Commission to enhance the state’s share in the Central taxes and duties to meet its increasing developmental needs.
He requested the Commission to consider the criteria such as population below the poverty line (BPL), population belonging to SC and ST categories , infrastructure needs of the state and fiscal discipline adhered by the state, while deciding the inter-se distribution.
Patnaik, who met Dr Vijay Kelkar, chairman of the 13th Finance Commission in New Delhi on Thursday informed the Commission that the state government has already implemented the revised pay scales for the government employees as per the recommendation of the Sixth Pay Commission (SPC), which has created huge burden on the state exchequer.
