In a bid to control prices and provide onion at cheaper rates to the consumers, the district administration here has decided to open 11 outlet taking the total number of outlets to 37.
"The administration with the cooperation of the fruits and vegetable vendors association has decided to set up 11 more outlets in the city which will sell onion at a cheaper rates," a senior officer said today.
Of these 11, 7 will be in Dubagga vegetable market and the remaining four at Sitapur Road Mandi, he said.
The price at these retail outlets has been fixed at Rs 20-24 per kg for grade-A onions, Rs 16-19 per kg for grade-B and Rs 9-15 per kg for C grade quality of the staple vegetable.
On the directives of the state government the administration had already set up 26 retail outlets in different parts of the city.
The administration's move to set up outlets led to tumbling of onion prices, which was ranging between 35-45 per kg last week, in the local vegetable market.
"Now one can get C grade onion at Rs 900 per quintal in the wholesale market. While A grade onion is priced at Rs 2100-2200 per quintal, B grade is available at Rs 1600-200 per quintal", a Mandi Parishad official said.
