The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on Wednesday said it would withdraw the 10 per cent water cut currently in force in the metropolis during festivals such as Dahi Handi and Ramzan Eid.
"There will be no water cut during festivals such as Dahi Handi (August 10) and Ramzan Eid (August 20)," Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said at the weekly standing committee meeting of the civic body. This is because the Modak Sagar dam, a key source of water for the metropolis, has been overflowing after water was released from the middle Vaitarna dam.
"The stock in the reservoirs supplying water to the city will last till March 13, 2013, she said. The civic body would take a call after September 30, 2012 on repairing and taking control of local wells, Mhaiskar said.
