A 13-year-old boy was killed and 18 people were injured today when a low-intensity bomb exploded in a flower market in south Delhi, a fortnight after the national capital was rocked by serial blasts.

The blast took place at about 2:15 pm in the market in Mehrauli, close to the historic Qutub Minar, after two men riding a motorcycle dropped a tiffin box wrapped in black polythene bag.

Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal, who visited the site, said one person was killed and 18 injured in the explosion.

Two persons came on a motorcyle and dropped the bag containing the explosive in the market, he said.

A child picked up the packet which exploded.

The explosive was dropped near an electronic shop and the blast shattered window panes of several adjacent shops.

Eleven of the injured were rushed to AIIMS where doctors said six were in critical condition.

The explosion comes exactly two weeks after the national capital was rocked by five near simultaneous blasts in which 24 people were killed.
