Supporters of Sharad Pawar in the Congress Party in Parliament executive had yesterday planned to attack RK Dhawan, but he did not turn up for the meeting. As an AICC general secretary, Dhawan is an invitee.
We had all decided to pounce on him, said a member, because of Dhawans rude criticism of Rajesh Pilot, Priya Ranjan Das Munshi and Pawar at Sundays meeting of the Congress Working Committee. Das Munshi is a vocal member of the CPP executive and a half-dozen other Pawar supporters are members.
At the CWC, Dhawan recalled that Das Munshi had called Indira Gandhi a cancer in the Congress and reminded Pilot that he used to visit him on a Lambretta scooter.
Pilot had threatened to walk out of that meeting unless party chief Sitaram Kesari controlled Dhawan. Kesari made the request to Dhawan. Senior party leader Mukherjee had interjected to tick off Dhawan. He told Dhawan to stop invoking Indira Gandhis name repeatedly adding that he wasnt the only one who had worked with her.
