Punjab inching towards all time record

Out of total lifting of 103.46 lakh tonnes so far, 97.51 lakh tonnes was lifted for central poll by FCI and government agencies while 2.94 lakh tonnes procured for state pool. Private traders lifted just 3 lakh tons out of total procurement, said an official release issued here today.      

Till May 17, PUNGRAIN procured 18, 18,063 tonnes, MARKFED procured 23, 42,799 tonnes, PUNSUP procured 22, 38, 641 tonnes, PSWC procured 11, 91,461 tonnes whereas PAIC was able to procure 11,02,377 tonnes of wheat for the  central pool.      The Central Government agency FCI procured 10, 57,735 tonnes for  the central pool.     
Ferozepur District with 12,15,133 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur District with 9,54,192 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and  Ludhiana district with 8,46,949 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.     

The Punjab Government and FCI have made a payment of more than Rs. 11316 crores to the farmers of the State for wheat procured upto May 15,  2008.
