The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the government on a petition moved by the Internet and Mobile Association of India complaining against the orders asking them to remove objectionable content created and posted by third parties.

A bench headed by J Chelameswar posted it for hearing along with two earlier petitions raising similar issues.

In another case relating to internet content, a Bench headed by Chief Justice R M Lodha noted the government's statement that an advisory committee had been set up to look into child abuse content. The servers are in foreign countries and the government is considering a regulation mandating servers to be installed in this country, so that there could be better control over distribution of content. The public interest petition, moved by Kamlesh Vaswani, will be considered by the court after the report of the advisory committee.
