New proposals in aluminium and steel sectors.
The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) today recommended seven projects including five new projects and capacity expansion plans of two existing projects-Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) and Hindalco Industries worth Rs 69,779 crore to the High Level Clearance Authority chaired by the Chief Minister.
The SLSWCA also cleared a 120 MW power project of Ramakrishna Power Limited entailing an investment of Rs 525 crore. This project would come up near Ganjam and will make use of sea water.
VAL which runs an alumina refinery plant at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district and a smelter plant at Jharsuguda has proposed to scale up the capacity of these plants six fold.
While the capacity of the refinery will be raised from the existing one million tonne per annum (mtpa) to six mtpa, that of the smelter plant would be raised from 0.25 mtpa to 1.6 mtpa.
Moreover, the capacity of the company's Captive Power Plant (CPP) would be hiked from 675 MW at present to 1350 MW. The company has lined up an investment of Rs 37,440 crore on these expansion plans.
Similarly, Hindalco would invest Rs 4430 crore on raising the capacity of its aluminium smelter plant at Jharsuguda from 0,146 mtpa to 0.36 mtpa and also to hike its CPP capacity from 366 MW to 966 MW.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, the state industries secretary Sourabh Garg said, “In the steel sector, there were two new proposals from Rohit Ferrotech and Bhushan Steel.
Rohit Ferrotech which is currently engaged in manufacturing of ferro alloys (with a capacity of one lakh tonne per annum) at Kalinganagar, has proposed to set up a 0.6 mtpa steel plant at the same location at an investment of Rs 2100 crore.”Bhushan Steel will pump in Rs 3000 crore in setting up a downstream park at Dhenkanal.
Four new power developers also presented their proposals before SLSWCA. While the SLSWCA cleared the proposal of Ramakrishna Power Limited, it referred three other power projects proposed by SPI Ports, NSL Nagapatnam and KU Projects Ltd to the HLCA.
SPI Ports Ltd has evinced interest in setting up 1320 MW power plant at Mahakalpara in Kendrapara district at a cost of Rs 6609 crore. This power plant will make use of sea water.
NSL Nagapatnam Power Ltd has lined up an investment of Rs 8940 crore in setting up a 1320 MW power plant at Boinda, a textile spinning mill at Rayagada and a sugar refinery at Paradip.
KU Projects Ltd has proposed to set up a 1320 MW power project at Sonepur at an investment of Rs 7260 crore.
The SLSWCA also referred to the technological mix in steel making to the HLCA.
