Odisha has recorded about 11 per cent growth in software exports in 2014-15 and positioned itself as the 10th largest exporting state among all the states in the country.

The software exports from the state, in value terms, has reached Rs 2,564 crore in the last fiscal from Rs 2,317 crore in 2013-14.

A total of 45 units have contributed to IT exports from the state during 2014-15. Of them, 42 units are registered under Software Technological Parks of India (STPI) and the balance are located in Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The STPI registered units have clocked export figures of Rs 2,077 crore While SEZ units exported Rs 487 crore worth of software.

Infosys is the biggest software exporter from the state with 63 per cent share. It is followed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) accounting for 18 per cent of the total exports, Tech Mahindra (5 per cent) and others.

"Large IT companies have a share of 87 per cent of total IT exports from the state. In value terms exports of Rs 2,232 crore have been made by the large IT companies. Exports from small and medium units have grown substantially over the last few years. SMEs (small and medium enterprises) exported Rs 332 crore accounting for 13 per cent of the total exports. The SMEs share to the total exports have registered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25 per cent in last three years which is a positive sign", PK Jena , state IT secretary told media persons.

He expected that the exports will cross Rs 3000 crore mark in this fiscal.

The rate of export growth from Odisha is almost at par with the national growth rate of 12 per cent. Infosys has already started operations at its second campus, TCS and others are expanding their operations in the state, we expect the growth rate will be more in future, said Manas Ranjan Panda, Director, STPI-Bhubaneswar.

It may be noted tha the US remained the top destination for software exports from Odisha, accounting for as much as 68 per cent of the total exports. US is followed by Europe (14 per cent), UK (eight per cent), Japan (six per cent) and others (four per cent).

Panda pointed out that IT sector has climbed to third position in sectoral exports from the state after metallurgical and engineering products.
