Samajwadi Party today said it will move a cut motion on the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha against the increase in prices of fertiliser and expected other Opposition parties like BJP to support it.

"Despite our repeated pleas, the government has failed to reduce fertiliser prices. Apart from this, the government has raised petrol and diesel prices. Thus, we are left with no option but to introduce a cut motion on the Finance Bill," SP national spokesperson Mohan Singh told reporters.

He said due to rise in fertiliser prices, which will come into effect from April 1, farmers will have to pay 10 per cent more.

"We expect other parties, especially BJP, to support our cut motion. It (BJP) is also planning to introduce a cut motion against increase in petrol and diesel prices and we are supporting its move. Therefore, we are hoping that BJP will also back us," he said.

Singh said SP does not want to pressurise the government but only wants to ensure that farmers get a fair price for fertilisers.

He announced that former Congress MP from Rewa Budhsen Patel and his supporters were joining SP.

"We expect that with the inclusion of Patel, SP will be strengthened in those areas of Madhya Pradesh which are close to UP, especially Rewa," he said.
