Sri Krishna report: Cong leaders in Telangana hold talks

Congress MPs, MLAs and other party leaders from Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh today held discussions on the strategy to be adopted by them after the Justice Sri Krishna committee submits its report to the Centre next week.

"We have started the process of consultations on the course of action to be adopted by us after the submission of report by the Sri Krishna committee. Today is the first meeting," Balram Naik, a Congress Lok Sabha member, told reporters.

Replying to a query, he said various suggestions like undertaking fasts, sit-ins and even boycott of the budget session of assembly and Parliament have been made during the meeting.

"Our goal is separate Telangana. We are discussing what should we do for achieving that," he said adding a committee could be formed to coordinate the activities of the of Telangana Congress leaders.

Asked about the complaint of Telangana supporters that the government is deploying security personnel in large numbers to "suppress" the statehood agitation, Naik wondered what is wrong with that. "What happens if forces come? We are fighting for Telangana. How does it matter?" he asked.

Replying to another query, he said the Congress MPs and other leaders have represented to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and other top leaders on withdrawal of police cases filed against students and other Telangana supporters during the Telangana agitation earlier this year.
