Euphoric at the Congress' spectacular performance in the Lok Sabha polls, a large number of people today gathered outside the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here and burst crackers, distributed sweets and danced to drum beats to celebrate the occasion.

Carrying placards portraying Singh, the supporters arrived at the 7-Race Course Road residence of Singh and shouted slogans praising the Prime Minister and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

Hugging each other, cheerful party workers bursted crackers near the residence as news trickled in that the Congress was heading to form the government at the Centre along with its UPA allies.

The first visitor at Singh's residence was Sheila Dikshit, the Chief Minister of Delhi, where the party has performed brilliantly.      Congress has declared Singh its Prime Ministerial candidate.

Similar scenes were witnessed at Congress headquarters on the Akbar Road and the 10 Janpath residence of party chief Gandhi.
