SVVR sets up integrated edu institution

The SVVR Educational Society, promoted by city-based Sagar Group of Industries, has set up an integrated educational institution at Chevella in Rangareddy district at a cost of Rs 25 crore. The 45-acre campus houses a food and agri business school (FABS), which the society claims to be the country’s first in the private sector, and a technology institute – Sagar Institute of Technology (Sitech).

Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, SVVR director K Prathap Reddy said FABS would offer a two-year residential postgraduate diploma in management (PGDM) with three streams of specialisation – international agriculture, agri business finance and agri business marketing — besides short-term programmes for practicing professional, while Sitech would offer four streams – civil, electrical, electronics and computer science engineering.

According to a recent Knowledge Commission report, there are nearly 1,700 general management schools in the country, churning out close to 100,000 MBAs and PGDMs a year. As against this, there are less than 20 agri B-schools producing 1,000 graduates annually. Of these, there are no exclusive agri B-schools, Reddy said.

“We have a sanctioned strength of 60 seats for FABS while the student intake for Sitech will be 60 for each of the four streams in the first year. The total course fee for FABS is Rs 5.25 lakh,” he said adding the society would be admitting international students starting next year. “Plans are also on the anvil to set up a general B-school on the campus next year,” he said.
