| Tejaswini, spread across 8,50,000 square feet, has already been leased out to major IT companies. |
| Apart from the 15,000 professionals working in Technopark, the new building is expected to create around 6,000 more jobs. The new block will house as many as 25 companies including Infosys, Ernst & Young, SunTec, US Technology Resources, Allianz Cornhill, Stock Holding Corporation of India and Office Tiger. |
| This new addition has made Technopark the largest IT park in India, extending to almost 32 lakh sft and housing 120 IT firms. Expansion in another 600 acres is under way. |
| Speaking after inaugurating the new building, chief minister VS Achuthanandan said IT in Kerala is poised for a big leap and the state government will ensure that development will be speeded up in the sector. |
| Adding that the infotech scenario in the state has the potential to create two lakh employment opportunities in five years, he said the state government has kickstarted acquiring around 500 acres of land for the proposed Technocity that will come up soon. |
| This apart, the government has initiated work to make the proposed integrated satellite IT parks in the state. The first such park will come up at Kozhikode, he added. |
| "I wish to assure you that my government will take every effort to improve the infrastructure facility and will provide maximum possible support for the growth of IT industry. Many companies have approached me for setting up their operations in Kerala and I am happy to welcome all of them to the state," he said. |
| Delivering the special address, Kiran Karnik, president, Nasscom, said that the sate government should take up the challenge of making Kerala a fully e-literate state by year 2010. |
| The need for high-speed connectivity between IT destinations like Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram was also pointed out by the Nasscom chief. Karnik sad the IT industry has proved effective in generating direct employment to around 15 lakh people and indirect employment to around six million individuals. |
| M Vijayakumar, Kerala's minister for law, parliamentary affairs and sports, K R Jyotilal, special secretary (IT), and chairman, Technopark Board, Radhakrishnan Nair, CEO, Technopark, were among those who spoke at the function. |
