In a meeting last week, the state minister of commercial taxes and registration M C Sampath had reviewed the performance of commercial taxes Joint Commissioners (territorial and enforcement).
Post the meeting, the state government had issued a release which stated that in its street survey, it had identified 4,492 bogus dealers which are eligible for the cancellation of registration and 1,780 unregistered dealers were identified for registration.
Also, irregularities in stock transfer of mobile phones and edible oil involving tax effect of Rs 36-crore has been identified.
The minister mentioned the online facility of declaration forms rolled out to the dealer fraternity, had enabled them to generate 784,347 ‘C’ forms and 73,084 ‘F’ forms online.
Further, 83 per cent of the dealers had filed 342,174 returns online and 72 per cent of the payment ie, Rs 2,919.08-crore has been effected by e-payment in December 2013.
He instructed the officials of the department to undertake all possible efforts so as to achieve the target fixed for the financial year 2013-14, as the department was contributing a major share of state revenue necessary for the social development schemes and growth schemes of the state.
He also asked the assessing officers attached to the territorial wing to undertake qualitative return scrutiny of all dealers in order to augment the government revenue, apart from expediting finalisation of pending assessments under Central Sales Tax Act and implementation of field audit/ surprise inspection proposals received from the enforcement wing.
During the review, the minister instructed that both the territorial and enforcement wing of Commercial Taxes department to take co-coordinated and continuous action on bill traders and stringent action on beneficiary dealers availing bogus input tax credit from bill traders so as to safeguard revenue.
