Speaking to Business standard, Mathai Chako, MLA, who envisaged the tourism package as part of his election manifesto, said the waterfalls and the other spots of natural beauty in the region would be connected by the corridor to provide a whole-day tour of the region.
The sites to be covered would include Anakampoyil, Aripara, Medapara, Kozhipara besides the Thusharagiri waterfalls, which is already a much sought-after tourist destination in the district.
The corridor would cover a number of beautiful spots in the Western Ghats region, many of which can be visited in a day. The tourist corridor would be developed with least damage to the environment.
It would also cover areas like Thusharagiri, Jeerakappara, Poovaranthodu and Vellarimala. The amenities planned as part of the project include safety measures to avoid accidents, especially at the water falls," Chako said.
Thiruvananthapuram-based Habitat Technologies has been chosen as the agency that would implement the project. Private participation in the project would also be considered.
G Sankar, cheif architect, Habitat, who visited the spots that would be included in the tourism corridor, said the central and state governments, department of tourism and the local self government institution would be the stakeholders in the project.
