Although Prime Minister IK Gujral is a good man, he would be unable to steer the country well because of inherent contradictions within the 13-party United Front government, BJP general secretary Kushabhau Thakre said yesterday. The government would not last long, he asserted.
The political drama during the last twenty days had exposed the United Fronts unity plank, Thakre said, suggesting that the Front should change its name as it was anything but united. The Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) was out of the Front, he pointed out as an example of the Front partners fragile unity.
Gujrals task is extremely difficult because of the character of the leaders of the partners in the coalition government. By changing their leader from former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda to Gujaral, these leaders basic character would not change, Thakre said.
No only all these partners have fought against the Congress, which is supporting the government from outside, they also have behavioral contradictions, he said, adding that they are all traditional breakers. You can see their history.
Thakre held that the BJP stood to gain from the present arrangement at the Centre.
The Front government would fail to deliver the goods to the people and the BJP, as a true opposition, would highlight their problems. The government will die of its own weight and in the next general elections, the BJP would gain substantially, he claimed.
The party had realised after the last general elections that more efforts were needed to cross the figure of 161 Lok Sabha seats it had achieved last time.
The party had already begun the process of correcting its organisational weaknesses, he said.
