UP organises summit on emerging biz opportunities in solar energy

A national solar summit will be organised in Lucknow this week to highlight the emerging business and trade opportunities in the solar and renewable energy segment.

The three-day event, hosted by the Indian Industries Association (IIA), would be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on April 24.

The summit aims to explain how households can install solar power systems; industries can use solar energy as an alternative to conventional power supply; industrialist can set up solar power plants; and the opportunities entrepreneurs have in to setting up solar equipment manufacturing facilities.

The UP government has zealously taken up the agenda of augmenting solar power generation and consumption, both on-grid and off-grid. The government had announced a solar energy policy, which promises incentives to entrepreneurs setting up solar power plants. Besides, the state has been promoting rooftop solar plants for small companies and individuals. This would not only provide a green and renewable energy source, but also reduce the burden on the grid.

The second edition of the North India Solar Summit (NISS) is being hosted in collaboration with the state nodal agency, UP New & Renewable Energy Development Agency. Equipment suppliers, distributors, advisory groups, support agencies and organisations associated with the energy sector are likely to participate.

Forty-two exhibitors, including Aliter from Spain and national-level solar power companies, will take part, senior IIA official Prashant Bhatiya said.

A seminar on Rooftop Solar Policy would be a special component of the summit for investors and entrepreneurs.

All major energy related departments and agencies, including the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission, the UP Power Corporation Limited, distribution companies, UPNEDA and banks, would explain the nuances of the new policy and help prospective entrepreneurs firm up their solar energy-based business plans.
