The secretary of Uttar Pradesh Samajwadi Janata Party, Thakur Jugendra Singh, was shot dead yesterday afternoon, police sources said.
Three armed men gunned him down while he was consulting with his counsel in his chamber in the collectorate compound which is very near to the SJP party office.
Police said the assassins came on a motorbike and opened fire on him with countrymade pistols. He died on the spot.
One of the assassins was arrested while his companions managed to escape. The bike used for the killing was also recovered.
