A four-member delegation of the World Bank (WB) led by task team leader Shayamal Sarkar called on Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Chandigarh and apprised him about various ongoing water supply and sanitation projects under the WB scheme in the state.
Sarkar informed that in the current year, Rs 216.14 crore was allotted towards water supply scheme for 344 identified villages. Currently work in 161 villages has been initiated, for which Rs 66.88 crores had already been released in the first quarter. Sarkar further informed that in the year 2010-11, sewerage and water supply WB scheme had been implemented in 529 villages of which 121 villages were developed as ‘role model villages’.
After Sarkar complained of work being hampered at a few places due to lack of support by local people, Badal directed the concerned district commissioners to look into the matter immediately. He also assured the WB team of complete support and cooperation.
