Despite dropping from their respective spots from last year, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A), SPJIMR and IIM Bangalore (IIM-B) continued to find their place among the global top 50 in the latest Financial Times Masters in Management (MiM) Rankings 2021.

MiM programmes considered for the ranking are offered by schools with AACSB or EQUIS accreditation and are targeted at participants with little or no work experience.

While IIM-A fell six places to 26th rank in the current edition, down from 20th rank last year, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s S P Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) fell from 36th place in the previous edition to 39th place. Of the three, IIM Bangalore saw the highest dip, falling from 36th place to 47th place in the latest edition. On the other hand, IIM Calcutta which was ranked 21st last year did not get ranked this year.

Among other Indian business schools (B-schools), IIM Lucknow and IIM Indore shared the joint rank of 79 with UK's Lancaster University Management School, followed by IIM Udaipur at 82nd spot.

IIM-A was ranked globally fifth in one of the criteria - careers service rank which measures the effectiveness of the careers service in supporting student recruitment.

Around 124 MiM programmes took part in the ranking process in 2021, up from 114 last year. The ranking has 17 criteria carrying varied weightage including current average salary, salary increase, value for money, career progress, female faculty, female students, women on board, international course experience, international mobility, international board, international students and faculty with doctorates, among others.

Commenting on the rankings, SPJIMR dean Dr. Varun Nagaraj said that the FT rankings clearly highlighted SPJIMR’s successful commitment to student and alumni success, faculty excellence, and diversity.

On the other hand, IIM Indore director Himanshu Rai stated that while the premier B-school has been ranked in the top 100 FT rankings at a time when the institute will be completing its 25 years in October 2021, it now aims to be in the top 50. "We are the third amongst IIMs and the fourth business school in the nation to be listed among the top-100. We now aim to be in the Top 50 and will ensure working harder for the same," said Rai.
