HC relief to Congress MP facing Interpol notice
Press Trust Of IndiaIn a temporary relief for Congress Rajya Sabha member, K V P Ramachandra Rao, the high court here on Monday restrained until further orders the government from proceeding with regard to the red-corner notice issued against him by Interpol.
The state police have received the Interpol notice through the Central Bureau of Investigation. Rao has been indicted (with five others) by a US federal jury for allegedly receiving bribes amounting to $18.5 million from an American firm which got licence to mine titanium in Andhra.
Rao's lawyer, Satyanarayana Prasad, told reporters the court also issued notices to the Centre, state government, CBI and state police, seeking replies. "The court noted the red-corner notice was not accompanied by any documents or details. As per Supreme Court's guidelines, a red-corner notice must comply with Indian laws," Prasad said.
Rao has challenged the notice issued against his arrest and extradition.
