AIADMK's main rival and scam hit Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) was completely washed out and the Narendra Modi-led BJP alliance made in road by leading two seats.
It was full of celebration at AIADMK's head quarters Lloyds road and Jayalaithaa's residence at Poes garden. Party cadres were burning crackers and distributing sweets ever since counting started as the Party was in lead in around 36 of the 39 constituencies. Some of the high profile candidates, of DMK, who are trailing include Former Union Ministers and DMK leaders A Raja, who was alleged in the 2G scam, T R Baalu and others. Congress leader and Former Union Mani Shankar Aiyar is also trailing.
Karti P Chidambaram, son of Congress senior leader and Finance Minister P Chidambaram, also trailing to AIADMK candidate. This is the first election Karti is contesting, after his father decided not to contest from this election.
C Ponnaiyan, former finance minister of Tamil Nadu and a senior leader of AIADMK said that the Jayalalithaa government, on the one side has been focusing on welfare schemes including free rice and laptop and on the other side has been working on development programmes including infrastructure and in primary and industrial sectors.
Tamil Nadu went for Lok Sabha elections on April 24. Total number of electors were 5.50 crore and the votes polled recorded was 73.68 per cent.
The BJP, which joined hands with five regional parties to contest in Tamil Nadu, managed to grab two seats.
