Lok Sabha polls: Parties unleash star power

Congress has taken lead by declaring three cine stars as candidate in different constituencies

The Lok Sabha 2014 is gearing up to witness unleashing of star power at the hustings with Bollywood and cricket personalities in fray.

The Congress has taken the lead by declaring three cine stars as candidates in different constituencies. Bollywood actors Raj Babbar, Nagma and Ravi Kishan are trying their luck from Ghaizabad, Meerut and Jaunpur seats.

While, Babbar is the sitting member of parliament (MP) from Firozabad, Nagma and Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan are making debut in electoral politics.

Bollywood actress Jaya Prada, who recently joined Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), along with her political mentor Amar Singh, has been fielded from Bijnor in Western UP. Jaya Prada represented Rampur constituency in Lok Sabha.

Prolific batsman Mohammed Kaif has been given ticket by the Congress from his native Phulpur constituency in Allahabad district.

Sit-up comedian Raju Srivastava, was in fray from Kanpur as Samajwadi Party nominee, however, the party replaced him with Surendra Mohan Agarwal recently.

Poet Kumar Vishwas of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is fighting against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

Besides, all the marquee names in Indian politics would be in fray from Uttar Pradesh.

Be it Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, party president Rajnath Singh, Congress president and vice president Sonia and Rahul Gandhi respectively, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, RLD president Ajit Singh, etc.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is likely to contest against Modi from Varanasi seat.

Other prominent candidates across political parties include, Menaka Gandhi, Varun Gandhi, Uma Bharti, Murli Manohar Joshi, Santosh Gangwar, Kalraj Mishra (all BJP); Salim Sherwani, Jitin Prasad, Salman Khurshid, Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Pradeep Jain, P L Punia, Beni Prasad Verma, R P N Singh, Rita Bahuguna Joshi (all Congress); Dimple Yadav, UP assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey, Mitrasen Yadav, Neeraj Shekhar (all Samajwadi Party).

Prominent Bahujan Samal Party candidates are Akbar Ahmad Dumpy, Lal Ji Verma, R K Chaudhary and Nakul Dubey.
