 "Reimpose ban on Amit Shah: AMUTA to EC")
Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association (AMUTA) today demanded the Election Commission to "reimpose" ban on BJP leader Amit Shah for "vitiating the atmosphere by his communal rhetoric".
"In his speech at Azamgarh yesterday, Amit Shah had shown disrespect to EC, slandering the entire Muslim community of Azamgarh by branding them as terrorists," Aftab Alam, Secretary AMUTA, said in a statement.
Alam said, "the BJP was trying to repeat the dangerous game in Eastern UP which they played in Muzafarnagar last year just for polarising votes on gross communal lines."
"If the Election commission fails to reign in Amit Shah and his party colleagues then as a last resort we will approach the President of India to save the country from such deeply divisive moves," Alam said.
"Today the whole world is keenly watching whether India is able to preserve our centuries old traditions of pluralistic society or whether we choose to fitter away all this in the quest for power," he added.
