Verdict against NRC, CAA: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the Jharkhand Assembly poll results appeared to be a verdict against the NRC and CAA. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo said BJP leaders had "aggressively" campaigned in the last two phases of the Jharkhand Assembly polls, raising the issues of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). "So it appears that the people of at least one state have conclusively given their verdict that they do not want it (CAA and NRC)," he said at a press conference. Kejriwal congratulated Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's (JMM) Hemant Soren for the poll victory and said the BJP's electoral loss meant that its government did not perform well in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand polls: JMM-led alliance leads in 43 seats, BJP in 27

The JMM-led 3-party alliance in Jharkhand is leading in 43 of the 81 state assembly seats, while the ruling BJP nominees were ahead in 27, according to the latest trends available on the Election Commission website.

 

Chief Minister Raghubar Das was trailing BJP rebel candidate and former minister Saryu Roy by over 4,000 votes in Jamshedpur (East) constituency. Roy is in the fray as an Independent candidate. Das has represented the seat five times since 1995.

BJP to make assessment after Jharkhand results: Arjun Munda

Three-time Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, who is currently Union Minister for Tribal Affairs in the Modi government, on Monday said that the picture will be clearer after 15 rounds of counting in the Assembly polls in the state.

 

Speaking to the media, Munda said he is confident BJP will be able to secure its position. He said after the results the All Jharkhand Students Union will side with the BJP on the basis of principles and ideology. Read more
