Stalin may not meet KCR on May 13

The DMK Tuesday indicated its party chief MK Stalin may not meet K Chandrasekar Rao on May 13, as announced by the Telangana Chief Minister's Office earlier.

 

Sources close to the DMK President only said Stalin was 'busy' with his campaign schedule for the May 19 by-polls to four constituencies in the state and declined to divulge more details.

 

Earlier, a statement from the Telangana Chief Minister's Office (CMO) had said that Rao would meet the DMK chief at his residence here on May 13.

 

He had met his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday, even as Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy also rang up Rao after learning about his visits to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Claiming that her BJP rival Gautam Gambhir is proving to be a “novice” whose celebrity status will go against him, AAP's East Delhi candidate Atishi says people might want to see stars but want their representatives to be available to them in their everyday lives.

 

The Oxford graduate, who believes the BJP is her main opponent and the Congress is number three in the electoral race, said people won't vote for the former cricketer because they know he will anyway get disqualified after the elections.

 

“Gautam Gambhir is also proving to be a novice candidate. His nomination form was not filed correctly. He has two voter ID cards. People have this mindset - now that Gambhir has two voter ID cards he will anyway get disqualified so why waste our vote on him,” Atishi told PTI in an interview.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared that she did not return Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s calls to discuss Cyclone Fani, as she did not “want to share the dais with expiry-PM”. This was after Modi charged Banerjee with “playing politics” over cyclone relief. Will return your hatred with love: Rahul on PM Modi's barb at Rajiv Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that despite Narendra Modi insulting his father Rajiv Gandhi, he only had love for the prime minister.

 

"He is the prime minister of the country, but insults a martyr (Rajiv Gandhi). I told him whatever hatred you have for me...you can belittle me, you can say whatever you say about my father, mother, grandfather, grandmother. Whatever hatred you direct against me, I will only return it with love," Gandhi said.

 

Addressing a rally near Jama Masjid for party's Chandni Chowk candidate JP Agarwal, Gandhi recalled the moment he hugged Modi in Parliament. "Hatred can only be defeated by love. Remember, the same love will defeat you Narendra Modiji on May 23."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday asked voters not to deny money given to them by other political parties, but vote for the Aam Aadmi Party.

 

"On the night of election, do they [other political parties] come to give money or not?" Kejriwal asked, without mentioning the BJP or Congress.

BJP slams Pawar for playing politics over Naxal attack

The ruling BJP in Maharashtra came down heavily on NCP chief Sharad Pawar, saying he is "playing politics" over the last week's Naxal attack in Gadchiroli district of the state. Pawar, in a speech, had said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, visited Gadchiroli only to offer homage to policemen who died in the attack. The NCP chief also cited his former colleague and former Home Minister late R R Patil's special attention towards the Naxal-affected areas in the state. 

In a series of tweets in Marathi, the state BJP said "When leaders like you play politics over naxal attack, we also feel like asking you whether you are ashamed of it or not. But we would not ask such questions.

 

"If Pawar thinks that because of his so called visit to drought-hit areas awakened the state, then why would state farmers' received Rs 4,000 crore in their bank accounts for? Water tankers were deployed and fodder camps set up (in drought-hit areas)."

 

The saffron party said some issues should be above politics.

 

"Some questions are to be dealt beyond politics. Solutions have to be sought keeping politics aside," it said.
