Son of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, MK Stalin, is looking at the bigger picture during these polls. Though he has announced his candidacy from Kolathur constituency, the leader was seen campaigning in several areas of the state. The message; let the local leaders get the recognition that they deserve to.

Kolathur has reportedly witnessed rapid development in the past few years. Better roads, interiors, flyovers and transport facilities have been witnessed. Stalin, the sitting MLA from the constituency, will look to cash in on this strength of his.

However, his job is focused more on getting the party to the other side of the victory line, especially in times when the opposition is said to have been divided — a tough challenge.  Having been declared the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) chief ministerial candidate, his oratory and leadership skills will be put to test. The declaration also marks a departure of transfer of power from M Karunanidhi to his son.

A victory here would be of double advantage as that would ensure a take-off to Stalin’s career and push him into the national arena, coupled with helping a party come back to power in the state.
