To gather momentum for the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha poll, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath will hit the dusty campaign trail tomorrow leading a bike rally in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organised ‘Kamal Sandesh Bike Rally’ across all the 80 parliamentary constituencies in UP to garner the support of people in run-up to the elections when Modi seeks reelection against united opposition and anti-incumbency factor.

While, Adityanath will hit the road in Varanasi, other senior cabinet ministers, including deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma would lead the bandwagon in Phulpur (Prayagraj) and Lucknow respectively.

Besides, Sunil Bansal, the party organisation general secretary and close aide of BJP national president Amit Shah, will lead the bike rally in Kannauj, which is the pocket borough of the principal opposition Samajwadi Party (SP). Kannauj is currently being represented by SP president Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple in Parliament.

UP BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey will lead the campaign in his parliamentary constituency of Chandauli in Eastern UP.

The party has asked cadres to get at least 5 bikers from each polling booth in UP. All the party leaders, including parliamentarians, legislators and office bearers have been directed to ensure full participation in the respective rallies, which will be a sort of a show to strength to the opposition parties, even as an anti-BJP front is being created to take on the saffron outfit jointly.

There are about 160,000 polling booths in UP across 80 parliamentary and 403 assembly constituencies spanning 75 districts. The BJP leaders will highlight flagship schemes viz. crop loan waiver, Ujjwala, Saubhagya, Swachh Bharat Mission etc among the people.

“We are expecting participation of tens of thousands of party workers and cadres in this mass mobilisation programme, which is aimed at creating awareness about the good works being done by our central and state governments,” senior state unit party leader and spokesperson Chandra Mohan told Business Standard.

Adityanath had visited Varanasi on Monday when Modi had arrived in his constituency to launch post-independent India’s first operational inland waterways terminal between Varanasi and Haldia, West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the party has advised its cadres to adhere to traffic rules while participating in the rally, including wearing helmets, although enthusiastic party workers belonging to all the political parties are not known to conform to rules in such youth centric programmes.

Of late, Adityanath has also been dividing his time in addressing election rallies in other poll-bound states, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. After taking over as the UP CM, he has emerged as one of the star campaigners for BJP in India, especially Hindi heartland, and witnessed his political stock go up several notches as a hindutva posterboy.
