| While IBA was ready to provide a 8.5 per cent hike, the unions demanded a 20 per cent increase. In the last wage negotiations IBA had agreed to a 12 per cent salary hike. |
| The strike was also to protest IBAs insistence on widening the mobility clause which would now have to include other states too. Under the present understanding inter-state transfer for clerical cadre was not allowed. |
| In a parallel develop the employees of State Bank of India (SBI) has also declared a strike for settling their charter of demands which include fresh recruitment of clerical and subordinate cadre, appointment under compassionate ground. |
| "At present the bank was rejecting as much as 80 per cent of such compassionate recruitment's," explained Ashok Dutta, state convenor, UFBU, who was also the assistant secretary of SBI Staff Association. |
| Demands also include providing permanent jobs to part-time employees as well as against outsourcing of jobs. The unions also protested against creation of single window for customers without providing necessary infrastructure. |
