Having already seeded over 67,000 accounts with Aadhar numbers, Canara Bank is making every effort to create awareness among the general public to open their bank accounts and link them to Aadhar mumbers.

Towards this, it organised a road show across the 109 branches in five districts - Mysore, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya and Chamarajanagar - on May 30.

According to DGM S T Ramachandra of the Mysore Circle Office, as Mysore district is one of the districts identified for implementation of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of various Central government subsidies through Aadhar-linked accounts. Canara Bank had held a programme to create awareness on opening bank accounts and other basic banking products in Mysore.

Financial inclusion programme is another important agenda aimed at extending banking facilities with relaxed KYC norms to street vendors and migrant labourers. The Centre had brought out a pension scheme for the unorganised sector, 'Swavalamban'. In addition to this, housing and education loans are two other important segments wherein the government extends interest subvention / interest concessions to eligible borrowers.

Ramachandra called on bank officials to create awareness on the above aspects and at the same time also requested the public to encash the benefit by availing of various schemes and enrolling themselves through bank accounts.

Canara Bank, he added, had a branch network of over 3,800 and over 3,600 ATMs. It has an overseas presence too. The bank had recorded a global business of Rs 6 lakh crore as of March 2013. The Mysore Circle Office had a network of 109 branches across five districts.
