The Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank has helped link 280 self-help groups (SHGs) in Haveri district through its 22 branches in the region. Women make up membership of all these groups. The KVGB has released Rs 1 crore loans to these groups.
 
At a function to release the fund at Haveri regional office recently, KVGB chairman B S Surendra said the bank had provided credit support to over 13,000 SHGs and was in the forefront among the regional rural banks in the country.
 
He said that the bank was indirectly associating itself with women's empowerment programme by providing credit to the SHGs. He called upon the members to utilise the funds judiciously for the betterment of their economic conditions.
