The bank's total income rose 50.33 per cent to Rs 7,096 crore from 4,720 crore in 2006-07, it said in a statement.

The HSBC group injected fresh capital of Rs 788 crore during the last financial year to support growth in India. Capital and reserves rose from Rs 6,160 crore at the end of March 2007 to Rs 8,459 crore at the end of 2007-08.

The bank's asset portfolio rose 38.22 per cent to Rs 75,921 crore from Rs 54,929 crore in the previous year. Deposits rose 22 per cent to Rs 42,620 crore, while advances were 29 per cent higher at Rs 29,944 crore.

HSBC India, which has migrated to Basel II norms, had a capital adequacy ratio of 11.46 per cent at the end of March 2008.

HSBC group has a customer base of 2.8 million and operates 47 branches in India.
