The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned a financial support of Rs 129.82 crore to Tamil Nadu under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund - XVIII.
Lalitha Venkatesan, chief general manager, Nabard - Tamil Nadu regional office, said the amount had been sanctioned to set up additional infrastructure in 131 government higher secondary school across 31 districts.
The project envisages construction of 1,508 classrooms, 112 laboratories, staff rooms, hostel blocks, drinking water facility and toilet blocks. It is expected that upon completion 107,000 students will benefit.
With this, the cumulative sanction by Nabard under RIDF-XVIII for 2012-13 stands at Rs 822 crore, of which Rs 151.20 crore is for development of storage and waterhousing facility in the state. Other infrastructure development support during the current year includes irrigation, rural roads and bridges, firsh farms and jetties for inland and marine fisheries, she said.
