Punjab National Bank (PNB) is likely to report better net profit in the second quarter ended September 30, 2006 than the first quarter, S C Gupta, chairman of PNB, said."The net profit in the second quarter is much better than the first, and also comparatively to the second quarter of the previous fiscal," he said.The bank had made a net profit of Rs 368 crore in the first quarter this fiscal. The results of the second quarter would be announced on October 30.Gupta said there is no further hike expected in the prime lending rate and retail lending rate. PNB had increased the prime lending rate by 0.25% in August to 11.5%.
