Rupee on Friday closed below 46 against the US dollar for the first time this week. The Reserve Bank of India’s statement on dollar sales did calm the volatile currency and financial markets.

The rupee ended the session at 45.83, up 1.42 per cent as compared with 46.47 on Thursday. The rupee reached an intra-day high of 45.83. Last Friday, the currency had closed at 45.71 to a dollar.
