Dr. Najma Heptulla Not to Celebrate Bakrid due to Loss of Lives in J&K Floods and Patna Stampede To Donate Personal Funds Meant for Eid to Prime Minister's National Relief Fund

Dr. Najma Heptulla, the Union Minister of Minority Affairs has decided not to celebrate Bakrid (Eid-ul-Zuha) this year, in view of the recent widespread floods and damages suffered in Jammu & Kashmir and loss of lives in stampede on Dussehra Festival celebrations in Patna. Instead, expressing concern, she has decided to donate the amount to be incurred for Eid celebrations from her personal funds to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. Greeting on the eve of Eid, she said here today that the festival is observed by all the Muslims across the world at the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
