Paediatric Surgery Awareness Week Organised by Army Hospital Culminates The Paediatric Surgery Awareness Week organised by the Department of Paediatric Surgery, Army Hospital (Research & Referral) culminated here today coinciding with the occasion of Children's Day. The Awareness Week which began on November 09, 2015 was held with the theme 'Save the Foetus with correctible congenital anomalies: they also have a right to live.' It was aimed at sensitizing people from all walks of live about the common surgically correctible anomalies babies are born with, and the best possible treatment that can be offered to these children thereby ensuring a normal and good quality life. On the occasion, the department organised an interactive session with about 150 children suffering from congenital anomalies along with their parents wherein all doubts pertaining to the suffering children were answered by the experts. This was followed by a seminar on the same theme which was attended by several delegates, which included medical students from Army College of Medical Sciences, senior officers and nursing students from Military Nursing Service, resident doctors and faculty from surgery and allied specialities of all the Service hospitals. Addressing the seminar, Commandant of Army Hospital (R&R) Lt Gen SD Duhan exhorted the delegates that one should be sincere, honest and compassionate while dealing with the patients and their parents. He said awareness and timely intervention is of utmost importance in regard to paediatric surgical problems so as to provide the best medical care. Several experts from the Department of Paediatric Surgery Army Hospital gave their presentations on issues like anti-natal detection of anomalies, correctible congenital anomalies and its long-term outcomes. The week-long event organised under the aegis of Indian Association of Paediatric Surgery witnessed various activities which included distribution of informative pamphlets on the subject to all service personnel and their dependents in Delhi Cantonment by the Department.
