Southern Railways sends cars from Chennai to Nepal for the first time
125 vehicles of Hyundai were moved from Walajabad to Nautanwa, UP, which is close to the Nepal border. The cargo has generated a revenue of Rs 18.27 lakh for Railways

This is the first time ever that Chennai Division has loaded automobile goods for export to Nepal via Nautanwa Railway station in Uttar Pradesh.

Southern Railway's Chennai Division has loaded an automobile consignment for export to Nepal. This is the first ever export via train.
A total of 125 cars of Hyundai make were moved by IVC Logistics Limited in NMG (New Modified Goods) rakes consisting of 25 coaches from Walajabad to Nautanwa, Uttar Pradesh, which is close to the Nepal border. This traffic has generated a revenue of Rs 18.27 lakh for Railways.
Walajabad, goods shed in Chennai Division, has been consistently loading automobile consignment to various parts of the country since 2016-17. Two logistic companies, namely, TCOI (Transport Corporation of India) and JKTI (Joshi konoike Transport and Infrastructure Limited) were providing freight traffic business to Railways (both Outward and Inward traffic).
A third company, IVC logistics has contacted Chennai Division to do the business of transporting automobiles abroad.
This is the first time ever that Chennai Division has loaded automobile goods for export to Nepal via Nautanwa Railway station in Uttar Pradesh. From Nautanwa, the loaded car consignment will be transhipped by road to Kathmandu and Mahendra Nagar in Lumbini District of Nepal.
This consignment is transported by rail for a distance of 2,208 km. earning a revenue of Rs 18.27 lakh for Railways. Automobile loading of 2-3 rakes per month is expected this year.
The Walajabad goods shed serves as a rail auto hub for automobile manufacturing companies such as Renault Nissan, Hyundai, Ford, and Daimler Chrysler, situated in and around Chennai.
The enhancement of basic amenities such as railway mobile ramps and approach roads to the yard has helped transport goods easily, especially cars from manufacturing companies to the railway yard. Some 450 cars can be stacked at a time.
