Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd on Friday said it has secured an order worth Rs 86.85 crore from UltraTech Cement Ltd for the supply of specialised freight wagons and brake vans. The Adventz Group's flagship company said these wagons will serve UltraTech's Maihar and Sarlanagar plants in Madhya Pradesh. The brake vans will feature solar-powered systems to enhance energy efficiency. "This repeat order is an endorsement of Texmaco's engineering capabilities and our commitment to sustainable logistics," Managing Director Sudipta Mukherjee said. Texmaco also announced leadership continuity with the reappointment of Indrajit Mookerjee as executive director and vice chairman for one year from April 2026, and Mukherjee's extension as managing director for five years from June 2026, subject to shareholder approval. A freight train slammed into a double-decker bus at a crossing northwest of Mexico City early Monday, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 40, authorities said. The accident took place in an industrial area of warehouses and factories in the town of Atlacomulco, about 130 kilometers northwest of Mexico City. The state of Mexico's civil defence agency said via X that authorities were still working at the site of the accident, and the state prosecutor's office said it had opened an investigation. The bus from the Herradura de Plata line was ripped apart by the collision. The agency said 10 people were killed and 41 injured. Local media reports said the injured were taken to hospitals throughout the state. The bus company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) loaded a total of 68.19 million tonne of freight from April to June 2025, compared to 62.2 million tonne during the same period last year, a growth of 9.69 per cent, an official said. In the month of June this year, freight loading reached 23.15 million tonne, an increase of 7.72 per cent compare to over 21.49 million tonne loaded in June 2024. The daily average freight loading by East Coast Railway currently stands at 0.75 million tonne, keeping the zone on track to achieve its annual target for the fiscal year 202526, the official said. This consistent growth is attributed to efficient planning, improved operational management, and proactive coordination with freight customers across sectors like coal, iron ore, cement, and fertilizers, the official added.
A parcel train containing 24 tonnes of cherry left Jammu and Kashmir's Katra station for Mumbai on Saturday, marking the first such initiative which was described by the Jammu division of the Northern Railway as "historic". The parcel train, which will reach Mumbai's Bandra station within 30 hours, was earlier scheduled for June 3 but was advanced to facilitate two more indents for loading of cherries, one from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station and another from Jammu station, in the coming days, a railway official said. The Northern Railway has cancelled three and changed the routes of 26 express and mail trains originating from various stations in Delhi due to the derailment of a freight train near Vrindavan Road Station between Palwal-Mathura section in Uttar Pradesh. Releasing a list of diverted and cancelled trains, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, CPRO, NR said that due to derailment of train between Vrindaban Road - Ajhai Station on Mathura Jn - Palwal Section of Agra Division over NCR several trains will remain temporarily cancelled or diverted. The freight loading statistics for August 2024 highlighted the remarkable performance of Indian Railways as a total of 126.97 MT of freight was loaded in August alone, contributing to a cumulative total of 653.22 MT for the financial year 2024-25 up to August, the Railway Board said in a press statement. The Ministry of Railways on Friday said it is on track to register its best-ever performance in terms of freight loading, overall revenue collection and track laying in the financial year 2023-24. In a press statement, the ministry said, "As per the preliminary data, IR (Indian Railways) has crossed an originating freight loading of 1500 MT today on 15th March, 2024. Previously, IR had achieved the best ever freight loading of 1512 MT during FY 2022-23. "During FY 2023-24, total revenue of Indian Railways stands at Rs 2.40 lakh crore as on date. Last year on 15th March, total revenue was Rs 2.23 lakh crore, an increment of Rs 17,000 crore. Total expenditure of Indian Railways stands at Rs 2.26 lakh crore in FY 2023-24," it stated. According to the ministry, the number of passengers during FY 2023-24 stood at 648 crore, an increment of 52 crore compared to the figures of the same period of last year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday dedicated to the nation the 77-km New Bhandu-New Sanand section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor that will help speed up the transport of goods from ports and manufacturing hubs in the region. "The travel time of Ahmedabad-Delhi Rajdhani Express has been reduced by nearly one hour," a senior Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) said. At least 13 people were killed and several others injured on Monday when a passenger train collided with a freight train in Bangladesh, officials said. The accident took place when the passenger train headed from Kishoreganj to Dhaka collided with the freight train around 4:15 pm. Thirteen bodies have been found so far, bdnews24 reported, citing a police official at the Bhairab Railway Station. Several people were trapped under the damaged coaches, the news portal said. At least six labourers were killed and two others critically injured in Odisha's Jajpur Keonjhar Road railway station after being run over by a goods train on Wednesday, an official said. The labourers had sheltered from heavy rain under the goods train when it started rolling. "There was a sudden thunderstorm. The labourers were working at a railway siding where a goods train was standing stationary. They sheltered under it but unfortunately, the goods train which did not have an engine attached to it started moving causing the accident," said a railway spokesperson.
