Rain-triggered floods have affected 13,000 people in a forest area in China's Inner Mongolia region.

In the worst-hit Tulihe Township of Yakeshi City alone, mountain torrents swept the township Sunday. Over 1,200 houses were inundated and over 3,000 residents were affected, Xinhua reported citing authorities.

As of Sunday night, more than 10,000 people in Genhe City had also been affected by floods.

Local meteorological department said rainfall would continue in the coming days.

More than 130 officers and soldiers from a branch of an armed police of the Greater Hinggan Mountains have been dispatched to rescue and relocate the residents.

Another 1,000 personnel from local government, forest police and public security police have participated in the efforts of consolidating dams and reservoirs in the city.
