Alstom bags Rs 573 crore contract from BHEL

Alstom will co-operate with BHEL in designing the boilers and supply identified pressure parts of the 660 MW supercritical boilers

French firm Alstom today said it has bagged a contract worth Rs 573 crore from state-run BHEL for supplying equipment for a thermal power plant at Nabinagar in Bihar.

"Alstom has been awarded the contract worth USD 85 million (approximately Rs 573 crore) by BHEL to supply components for three units of 660 MW boilers for the Bihar project," the company said in a statement.

Nabinagar Power Generating Company is a joint venture of NTPC and Bihar State Electricity Board.Alstom is the sole licensor of the super-critical technology of BHEL and is also collaborating with BHEL for the project, the statement said, adding that the project has been awarded to BHEL as part of the NTPC Bulk 660 MW tender.

Under the scope of the contract, Alstom will co-operate with BHEL in designing the boilers and supply identified pressure parts of the 660 MW supercritical boilers.
    
It will also assist BHEL with technical advisors during the erection and commissioning of the units. Key components will be manufactured in Alstom's manufacturing facilities in Wellsville and Concordia (USA), as well as in  Durgapur and Shahabad (India).The units are expected to be commissioned by 2017-18.

"This contract is yet another confirmation of the strong business and technology co-operation that Alstom has forged with BHEL since 2005 in the field of supercritical boilers," Patrick Ledermann, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Alstom Thermal Power in India said.
