Pakistan's corruption watchdog has decided to reopen major corruption cases against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari and other prominent politicians.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Chaudhry Qamar Zaman sought details of the high-profile cases and decided to hold all authorities, irrespective of positions, accountable, Dawn News reports.

According to the report, the chairman urged the NAB officers to ensure transparency and an even-handed approach, irrespective of who is involved, and said he would not tolerate any delay in the processing of such cases.

Earlier, former Chairman retired Admiral Fasih Bokhari had not given a nod for pursuing the high-profile cases, the report added.

A NAB source said a file containing cases of more than 30 politicians, including the Sharif brothers, was placed before the former chairman for his final approval for initiating action against them, but instead of signing it, he kept it in his own custody.
