American retailer Target Corp's head of technology, Beth Jacob, reportedly resigned from her role after late last year's mega security breach.

Touted one of the largest data breaches in retail history, the Target breach exposed personal data of about 110 million customers due to bugged PoS systems.

According to The Verge, Jacob served as Target's chief information officer and executive vice president of technology services since 2008, and is vacating both positions and departing the company immediately.

In her resignation letter, Jacob said that choosing to leave Target was a 'difficult decision.'

CEO Gregg Steinhafel said that the company had already launched a search for an interim CIO to help steer Target through a major security overhaul.

The sophisticated hack attack was launched during the popular Black Friday shopping weekend and stretched on for three weeks and the retailer reported 61 million dollars in costs related to the breach, the report added.
