Trump's victory speech: From 'political stuff is nasty' to 'I will not let America down'

A few highlights from the 45th American President's victory speech from New York

Donald Trump triumphed over Hillary Clinton while defying all poll projections. Post the result declaration, Trump delivered a speech at the Hilton Hotel in New York City on Tuesday during a victory party organised by his campaign.

While everyone expected him to be his usual brash, foul-mouthed self but he was surprisingly mellow and humble. 

The real estate tycoon-turned-politician devoted most of his speech to thank both supporters and non-supporters and opponent Hillary Clinton.

Here are top 10 highlights of president-elect Donald Trump's victory speech:

1. "We're going to get to work immediately for the American people and we're going to be doing a job that hopefully you will be so proud of your President."

2. "So it's been what they call an historic event, but to be really historic, we have to do a great job and I promise you that I will not let you down."

3. "This was tough. This political stuff is nasty and it is tough."

4."We will seek common ground, not hostility, partnership, not conflict. I want to tell the world community that while we will always put America's interests first, we will deal fairly with everyone, with everyone."

5. "America will no longer settle for anything less than the best. We must reclaim our country's destiny and dream big and bold and daring. No dream is too big, no challenge is too great. Nothing we want for our future is beyond our reach."
