Consulting dominated compensation pacakge with Rs 13.19 lakh per annum

Systems sector dominated the annual placement season of the premier business school Xavier Institute of Management-Bhubaneswar (XIM-B) absorbing about 35% of its 341 candidates of its flagship MBA (Business Management) programme for the passing out batch of 2014-16.

The major recruiters in the Systems space included IT behemoths like HP, HCL Technologies, Wipro , Accenture Technology Services, Capgemini, Infosys, among others. Systems sector is followed by Consulting sector (26%) , Marketing (24%), Finance (9%) and Operations (6%).

In the sector wise average salary comparison, consulting sector dominated the compensation pacakge with Rs 13.19 lakh per annum followed by finance sector (12.77 lakhs), sales and marketing (Rs 13.17 lakh) to the graduating batch. Strategy & Operations and Systems average annual offers were Rs 12.01 lakhs and Rs 11.37 lakhs respectively.

"The highest salary offered was Rs 20 lakhs by Godrej. This year's 100% placement is despite the increase in number of seats", Savita Mohanty, placement coordinator at XIMB, the business school of Xavier University.

About 89 companies participated in Xuberance'16, the placement process for recruiting the candidates, out which 59 were new recruiters for the Business Management programme. Xuberance'16 saw a batch of 341 candidates appearing for participating in the placement process and 347 offers were made to them.

New bonds were formed with corporates like Maruti Suzuki, Vodafone, Bluestar, Dr Agarwala Healthcare, ICRA Management Consulting Services and Emami.

The average and median annual compensation for flagship programme stood at Rs 12.44 lakhs and Rs 12 lakhs respectively. The average annual compensation package of the students of 2013-15 batch was Rs 12.65 lakh. There were no international placements this year.

All the 89 outgoing students of MBA (Human Resource Management) stream are placed with an average annual compensation package of Rs 11.50 lakhs per annum. The highest salary stood at Rs 19 lakh per annum while the median annual pay package was calculated at Rs 10.80 lakhs.

The institute also recorded full placement for its Rural Management students with highest salary touching Rs 11.38 lakhs per annum. The average salary for the stream was Rs 7.21lakh per year.

In toto, 15 students opted out of the placement process.

" The government has to do a lot so that quality jobs can generated. There are only announcements but the reality is something different in the ground. I don't think companies are expanding at this moment. The job availability has declined in country from 4%. The efforts has to be made to create quality jobs," said father Paul Fernandes, Director, XIM-B.
