Apparel exports up 14.9% in Sep

Apparel exports grew 14.9 per cent in September, with $1.1 billion of export due to good demand from the US and euro zone.

This is the sixth consecutive month where apparel exports have grown, at an average of 13 per cent. Export-led employment grew by 6.5 per cent in April-June.

“We request the government to put exports in the priority sector, which was accepted by the Padmanabhan committee. It can solve the problem of credit crunch for the apparel industry,” said A Sakthivel, chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council.

"Reacting on the overall trade, the lowest trade deficit in the last six month is good news. The good monsoon, positive manufacturing core sector and revival of the US economy can spin the game and export may be very good this year," Sakthivel added.
