Chana fell by Rs 27 to Rs 2,454 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators indulged in profits-taking at existing higher prices, driven by sluggish demand in physical market.
Increased supply from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan also put pressure on chana prices at future trade.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for July delivery fell by Rs 27, or 1.09% to Rs 2,454 per quintal, with an open interest of 72,010 lots.
Chana for delivery in June also declined by Rs 24, or one per cent to Rs 2,385 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,32,400 lots.
Similarly, its prices for delivery in May eased by Rs 23, or 0.99% to Rs 2,305 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,03,800 lots.
Traders said sluggish demand in the domestic market against increased arrivals from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan mainly led to fall in chana prices at the futures market.
