Copper up 0.3% as demand picks up, global cues

Metal rose 0.2% a metric tonne at the LME

Copper prices rose by 0.37% to Rs 443.05 per kg in futures market today as speculators created fresh positions after demand picked up from consuming industries in the spot market amid a firm global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February rose by Rs 1.65, or 0.37% to Rs 443.05 per kg in business turnover of 1,756 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 1.50, or 0.34% to Rs 448.70 per kg in 39 lots.

Market analysts said besides rising demand from consuming industries, a firming trend in metal at the London Metal Exchange, influenced copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper rose 0.2% to 7,052.50 dollar a metric tonne at the LME.
